Wild Apricot suggested a joint approach whereby our affected members put in support tickets with Bell. They seem to be big on phone support and online chats. The current solution is for all members to get gmail accounts. The ride registration system has been a tremendous success. On the inaugural club ride April 13, there were a total of 58 riders and leaders out for the 4 scheduled rides - that must be some kind of record! It was quite the windy day, but it was good to get out. Leaving registration open to the general public was causing us a few problems. When looking for a ride to join, try the Detailed List view. A reminder that registration is automatically enabled 2 weeks before the ride. This is a heads up to any Bell subscribers with sympatico. Mid April Bell started rejecting email coming from our systems servers. In the meantime, when messages fail, we try to identify them and re-send them, which works. Unfortunately, if you need to reset a password, the delays caused make that impossible. What started as a trial on one or two rides, proved so popular that we've enabled it on all the April rides.
The intent is to continue to use this feature for the rest of the season.
It does not matter if the ride is remote or not, those intending to attend a ride will be asked to RSVP, using the "Register" button. As the weather improves, be careful when riding the NCC mult-use pathways. Add to this the volume of eclectic traffic: pedestrians, baby strollers, toddlers, senior citizens, dog walkers, joggers, roller-bladers, wheelchairs, and Canada geese. PLEASE respect the speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour, ride in single file, and ring your bell and call out "passing on your left" as you pass other pathway users.
It is a bicycle ride open to individuals of all ages, and runs for 50 KM, beginning at the Club on Cameron Ave and proceeding through the Experimental Farm, over the Champlain Bridge to the Aylmer Marina and returning to the Club, followed by a barbecue in the Garden.
