It is hard to rate this since there was such a variety of essays in this book. They ranged from excellent to awful. The book was split into three sections: single, married, divorced. There were a few really touching essays regarding learning love from fathers.

About this product
The story of learning love from music was probably one of my favs. I was also very happy to see two essays written about same-sex love in the black community. I actually wish there were more.
There was also a beautiful essay about loving stepchildren. They weren't too bad. There was only one that i couldn't not finish because of this nonsense. It also appeared that most of the authors were of middle class or upwardly mobile middle class although a few did write about growing up poor. It would have been nice to see how people without alot of resourse deal with being single, married, or divorced. Overall, this was a nice and pretty quick read which i enjoyed.
Shelves: ok-read. I have strong opinions about African-American Relationships; therefore, I had decided not to read the book and just listen to the book discussion. I was wrong. This book was a surprise to me. The storytellers were very honest and blunt about their relationship successes and failures. Also, there was statistical data given that reputed what is reported a lot in mainstream media. I actually learned something from this book which I did not expect.
A pleasant surprise. My favorite essays were: Avery I have strong opinions about African-American Relationships; therefore, I had decided not to read the book and just listen to the book discussion.

Come back. Read another essay or two, put it down. Gil Robertson, the Editor of this new book has amazingly put together a great selection of people to share their thoughts on all the facets of African-American relationships, in an attempt to start a real discussion so that future generations can begin to heal themselves and love again the way generations in the past did. Stay tuned for Part 2 and 3 of this video, in which Ed Garnes and Amy Keith discuss more on this topic and share invaluable tips of how to love in the black community.
You can purchase the book at most large retailers and online at Amazon.
